External Dependency Bug Announcement

For RHEL 7 and CentOS 7 users: Version 1.10.3-3.el7.x86_64 of the OpenMPI RPM is known to have a bug that impacts the usability of SST. Under certain configurations, SST users may encounter the following error:

…The /dev/hfi1_0 device failed to appear after 15.0 seconds: Connection timed out

This is a known bug, and further details can be viewed at the Red Hat Bugzilla site.

Per the comments in the bug report, a fix is not expected until release 7.4 of RHEL/CentOS 7.

We recommend avoiding the installation of the OpenMPI RPM version openmpi-1.10.3-3.el7.x86. If this is not possible, we recommend building the latest OpenMPI 1.10 from source and using it, which alleviates this problem. The source code for OpenMPI 1.10 is available here.

Instructions for building OpenMPI 1.10 are essentially the same as for building OpenMPI 1.8.8, substituting for the package version where necessary.
